Toil.

To work toward or think about incessantly.

What do you toil about? Work. Relationships. The Future. Finances. To-do Lists.

ME TOO! But why?

Honestly, I think it’s because we care about these things. We do not have to dismiss that. Our hearts are burdened by wanting all of these experiences to go smoothly and to be fulfilling.

Well, truth be told, if God is in it, if it is God’s will, He will make it happen despite your hand or your incessant thoughts about what clothes to wear to a work function.

God is LARGE and INCHARGE. He will care for you. He will give you the strength you need for each day. He will orchestrate your relationships to align just as they need to. He will bring in the finances you need at the exact moment you need them.

In fact, over and over again in the BIble we are reminded not to fear, not to fret, not to worry, not to toil, not to labor and spin. Why? Because GOD’S GOT YOU! He knows the number of hairs on your head and the number of tears you’ve cried. ALL OF THEM.

He sees your future and He isn’t afraid of what you will walk through. He sees your friend groups and your co-workers too.

He is there right beside you, right now and forevermore. The question is do you see Him? Are you acknowledging His presence in the highs and lows of your life? Are you focused on the presence of the living God and the fact He wants to be your friend?

I want you to do something. Something that will change your life. Something I have to remind myself to do every time I start to fret or fear. I want you to ask yourself what does this moment matter to the rest of my life AND my life beyond death? Has it killed you? No, so it’s probably not going to and if it is, consider the latter half of that question. Whatever “It” is that is getting you all worked up is going to grow you or teach you. It’s going to be a moment that reminds you to look to God for your fulfillment, shelter and rest instead of this life.

If that doesn’t help settle you consider this, what does it matter to your eternity? Because ultimately when this Earthly life is over (which could be tomorrow, we don’t know), where will you be? In glory with Christ, or in the pit of Hell. When eternity becomes a factor of your mindset, everything else will be put at ease. Instead of saying, “this matters because of X, Y and Z”, you’ll be saying, “this really doesn’t matter because someday when I am in Heaven with the Lord, I will no longer be fixed on Earthly things.”

So I urge you, and myself, to let go of whatever you’re holding on to and have peace that life WILL fall into place no matter what decisions you do or do not make or what events you do or do not attend.

One response to “Toil.”

  1. I love how you point others to focus on the Kingdom! I’m reading Karen Dilbeck’s book ‘Start Small’ – awesome little book that gives practical ways to get the right perspective.
