Everything I learned about Colombia:
-
It is the cocaine capital of the world.
-
The monetary currency is Pesos.
-
$4,000 Pesos is the equivalent of $1 U.S. Dollar.
-
It’s one of the coffee capitals of the world.
-
If you don’t know anything about Pablo Escobar, you should.
-
There are MANY malls in Medellin, Colombia.
-
People are literally beaten or killed for wearing the wrong jersey at soccer games.
-
Uber is illegal but it’s still an active form of transportation. This is because the government has commitments with the taxi services.
-
Toilet paper still ALWAYS goes in the trash can.
-
The primary modes of transportation are busing and walking. Colombia has one of the best metro systems anywhere.
-
There are many Venezuelan refugees living here.
-
The national sport is Futbol.
-
The city of Medellin is surrounded by mountains and the elevation is in the 5,000ft range.
-
City water is very expensive.
-
There are many, many, many, many, motorcycle riders in the city and they like to drive fast!
-
Foods and beverages are much cheaper than in the United States. For example, a coffee and a donut costs $ .53 when converted to U.S. Dollar.
-
Colombia does not value U.S. Dollar and therefore if you go there, you’ll need to hit up the ATM and take out Pesos! #you’rewelcome
You are learning all kinds of new things. Toilet paper in the trash can. Interesting!
Drugs are everywhere especially. Columbia.
Yes! Thanks for following along Sue!
Yes, Pablo Escobar’s story is very interesting. In the documentary I watched they compared him to Adolf Hitler. It also fascinates me how much of the drug world of Colombia connects to that of the U.S.
Interesting facts! I checked out Pablo Escobar. I remember the terror he caused when he was the drug kingpin. Also interesting, that although he was an evil man, he also did some humanitarian things. There’s the results of that old tree of the knowledge of good & evil manifesting in his life….he wasn’t all bad.
Also true that in many countries TP goes in the trash.
